About this item
The ABUS 28/70 C KD is a 70mm Original Diskus padlock with 360-degree shackle protection, Diskus Deep-Welding Technology, a hardened steel shackle, and a precision pin cylinder with anti-pick pins. The body is stainless steel. Keyed different (KD) is the standard configuration. Five locking elements engage on lock-up. The disc form factor conceals the shackle within the body so only a minimal opening is exposed, which makes tool-based attacks on the shackle significantly harder than on a conventional padlock. Suited for storage units, gates, trucks, doors, and barns where both physical attack resistance and cylinder security are priorities.
How the Diskus 28 series differs from standard padlocks and why the shape matters
The defining feature of the Diskus design is its round disc body, which is not cosmetic. It's a functional geometry change that directly addresses the two most common forced entry methods against padlocks: bolt cutter attacks on the exposed shackle and pry bar attacks on the shackle gap. On a conventional U-shackle padlock, the shackle arc sits above the body in open space, giving a bolt cutter or hacksaw clear working angles on the shackle material and accessible surfaces for the tool jaws to seat against. On the Diskus, the shackle pulls into the body disc when locked. Only a narrow opening remains, and that opening is surrounded by the stainless steel body on all sides.
Diskus Deep-Welding Technology bonds the body together without the seams or gaps that a pry tool could exploit to split the body apart. The result is a padlock that presents no useful prying edge and a shackle with very little exposed surface area for cutting tools to engage. The anti-pick pin cylinder adds a second layer of protection against manipulation attacks on the keyway.
Anti-pick cylinder and five locking elements on the ABUS 28/70
A standard pin tumbler cylinder can be manipulated by applying rotational tension while individually lifting pins to the shear line, a technique that works on cylinders without anti-pick features because the pins set in position as each one reaches the correct height. Anti-pick pins disrupt this process by using a modified pin design that doesn't provide clear tactile feedback when a pin reaches the shear line, making the manipulation sequence significantly harder to execute.
The 28/70 also engages five locking elements on lock-up rather than the single or double locking bolt found on basic padlocks. Multiple locking elements distribute the load across five contact points between the shackle and the body, so a forced extraction attempt has to overcome five separate mechanical engagements simultaneously rather than driving through a single point. The combination of anti-pick cylinder and five locking elements makes the 28/70 substantially more resistant to both technical entry and brute force than entry-level padlocks.
28/70 vs 24IB/70B and application selection
Both the ABUS 28/70 and the 24IB/70B are 70mm Diskus padlocks with the same disc geometry, Deep-Welding Technology, and 360-degree shackle coverage. The difference is in material specification and keying. The 28/70 uses a hardened steel shackle with a stainless steel body and is keyed different as standard, making it the correct specification for general commercial and industrial applications where strong attack resistance is needed but full marine-grade all-stainless construction is not required. The 24IB/70B uses full stainless construction throughout including internal components and the shackle, and is designed for severe marine and coastal weather environments where corrosion of any component is a concern.
For the full range of ABUS Diskus padlocks and other ABUS security products available on this site, browse the ABUS padlocks catalog. The complete padlocks section covers all brands, keying configurations, and security levels. For compatible hasp hardware to pair with the 28/70, the miscellaneous locks section includes ABUS Diskus hasps designed for this padlock format.
Select keyed different for independent locking or confirm keyed alike availability if the installation requires multiple 28/70 units on a single key. Shackle diameter is 25/64 inch; confirm the hasp opening accepts this size before ordering.
