About this item
The Accentra (Yale) 1111BF 689 is a multi-size hold-open door closer in aluminum finish, certified to ANSI/BHMA A156.4 Grade 1 and listed by UL and cUL, including compliance to UL10C. The closer has an aluminum body, is adjustable across spring sizes 1 through 4, and includes both adjustable backcheck and closing speed valves. The 1111BF is the hold-open model in the 1100 series: it can be engaged to hold the door in the open position. Sleeve nuts (1-3/4 inch) are included with all models. Non-handed, covers both right-hand and left-hand installations. SKU: 1111BF 689.
What hold-open means on the 1111BF and when this function is specified
A hold-open door closer includes a mechanism that allows the door to be held in the open position rather than automatically returning to closed on every cycle. The 1111BF engages the hold-open function when the door is pushed past the hold-open angle, at which point the closer holds the door in place until it is manually released to close. This is the correct specification for service doors, loading dock doors, utility corridors, and any application where doors need to remain open for extended periods to allow through traffic, equipment movement, or access during operational hours.
The hold-open function on the 1111BF is mechanical, not electromechanical. It does not require power, a release mechanism, or integration with a fire alarm system to operate. This makes it appropriate for interior doors within a building where code does not require automatic closing at all times and where the installation does not require a non-hold-open specification. For fire-rated door assemblies or any door where code or hardware specification requires the door to close automatically on every cycle, the non-hold-open 1101BF is the correct model. For the Accentra Yale 1101BF non-hold-open door closer in the same aluminum finish, that model is also stocked.
What sleeve nuts, backcheck, and closing speed valves provide on the 1111BF
Sleeve nuts (1-3/4 inch) are included with all 1111BF models and are used for through-bolt installation applications where the closer is mounted with bolts that pass entirely through the door. Including them in the package eliminates a separate hardware order on jobs where through-bolt mounting is required.
The backcheck valve controls the resistance the closer applies when the door is pushed open past a set angle, preventing the door from slamming against a wall or adjacent hardware. The closing speed valve controls the rate at which the door moves through the closing arc once released from the hold-open position. Both valves are adjustable in the field without replacing the closer or the closer arm, which allows the installer or maintenance technician to tune the door behavior to the specific traffic conditions and door weight at the installation site.
Grade 1 certification, UL10C compliance, and spring size selection for the 1111BF
ANSI/BHMA A156.4 Grade 1 requires the closer to pass 2 million closing cycles at minimum, making it the correct specification for high-traffic commercial doors. The UL and cUL listing, including UL10C compliance, verifies the closer meets the positive pressure fire test standard for door closers used in fire-rated assemblies. While the 1111BF hold-open function is not appropriate for fire door assemblies that require automatic closing, the Grade 1 and UL10C ratings confirm the closer body itself meets the performance requirements for institutional and commercial applications.
The spring size range of 1 through 4 covers light interior doors at size 1 up to heavier commercial doors at size 4. The correct spring size depends on the door weight, door width, and any air pressure differential at the installation location. For the complete Accentra door closer range, browse the Accentra door closers catalog. For all door closer options, the door closers section covers the full range. For other commercial hardware and builders hardware at American Locksets, the builders hardware section is available.
Confirm that the hold-open function is permitted by code at the intended installation location before ordering. Sleeve nuts included. Finish: 689 aluminum. Non-handed.
