Yale's commercial line became ASSA ABLOY Accentra in 2024, so the AU5408LN is the same lock schools and facilities have specced as a Yale 5408 for years. It's a Grade 1 cylindrical lockset set up for the classroom function, with the Augusta lever. The model number tells the story: AU is the Augusta lever, and the 08 is what makes it classroom function instead of storeroom.

How the classroom function works

This is the part worth understanding before you buy, because "classroom" means something specific. With the AU5408LN (ANSI F84), the outside lever is locked and unlocked only by key. There's no thumbturn and no button inside the room. A teacher with a key locks or unlocks the door from the corridor side, and once it's set, it stays that way until someone keys it again. The inside lever is always free, so anyone in the room can always walk out, which keeps the door compliant for egress.
