About this item
The Cal-Royal AMB-40 is a dummy leverset from the Summit Series, designed for pull-only doors where a matching lever handle is needed but no latch function is required. It carries concealed mounting screws for a clean rose face, a square rose standard to the Summit Series styling, and zinc plated trim and levers. It's rated ANSI A156.2 Grade 3 and fits doors 1-3/8" to 1-3/4" thick. Available in six finishes with a 25-year mechanical warranty and a 5-year finish warranty.
What dummy function means and where it belongs
Dummy function is exactly what it sounds like: the lever is there to pull, not to operate a latch. There's no spindle connection, no latch bolt, and no mechanism behind the rose. You pull the lever, the door moves if it's not otherwise held, and that's the full extent of what it does. That makes it the right choice for doors that don't need to latch shut on their own.
The most common applications for the AMB-40 are closet doors that stay closed by pressure or a magnetic catch, pantry doors with light traffic where a full latch is unnecessary, linen and utility doors that are kept closed casually rather than secured, and the inactive leaf of a double door pair where one side stays fixed. In that last case, adding a dummy lever to the fixed leaf creates a matching look on both sides of the opening without requiring a functional latch on a door that never moves.
Concealed screws and Summit Series square rose
The concealed screw mounting on the AMB-40 keeps the face of the rose completely clean. Standard lever installations have visible screw heads on the rose face where the trim is fastened to the door. The AMB series hides those fasteners behind the trim plate, so what you see on the door is a smooth square rose surface with no exposed hardware interrupting it. That detail is specifically relevant in renovation or remodel projects where the door hardware needs to look finished rather than utilitarian.
The square rose is standard across the Summit Series, which means the AMB-40 dummy lever will match other Summit Series levers installed on active doors throughout the same space. If the adjoining passage door, privacy door, or entry door is also from the Summit Series, the dummy lever on the closet or fixed door will share the same rose shape and lever profile, keeping the hardware consistent room to room.
Finish options, specifications, and warranty
The AMB-40 is available in six finishes: US26D satin chrome, US3 polished brass, US15 satin nickel, US10B oil rubbed bronze, US26 polished chrome, and US1 flat black coated. Trim and levers are zinc plated. Door prep requires a 1" bore for the latch tube location and a 2-1/8" bore for the lock housing, which is a standard residential cylindrical door preparation even though this dummy function doesn't use either bore for a working mechanism. The AMB-40 fits doors 1-3/8" to 1-3/4" thick, covering the full range of standard interior residential door thicknesses.
The 25-year mechanical warranty and 5-year finish warranty apply to the AMB-40 as part of the Cal-Royal Summit Series line. The complete range of Cal-Royal residential levers across all series is also available, along with the broader residential locks selection for coordinating entry and passage hardware.
Select your finish when ordering. The AMB-40 is the dummy function model in the Summit Series. For a functioning latch on the same door, a passage or privacy model from the same series is the correct choice.
