About this item
The Cal-Royal BKICK834 is a stainless steel kick plate measuring .050" thick by 8" high by 34" wide in US32D satin stainless finish. It conforms to ANSI/BHMA J102 and ships with #6 x 5/8" screws included. It's designed to protect the lower section of commercial and institutional doors from scuff marks, foot traffic impact, and cart strikes in high-use environments. The 34" width covers standard single commercial door widths, and the 8" height addresses the full zone where foot and cart contact most frequently occurs on a typical commercial door.
What a kick plate protects and where it's most needed
The lower portion of a door face takes consistent abuse in any commercial setting. Feet pushing the door open, hand trucks and carts backed against it, cleaning equipment repeatedly contacting the surface, delivery loads brushed against the edge — all of these gradually damage the door finish, the wood veneer on wood doors, or the painted surface on hollow metal doors. A kick plate installed at the right height intercepts that contact and keeps it off the door itself.
The 8" height on the BKICK834 sits above the typical toe kick zone and catches most cart and foot-level impacts on doors up to 36" wide. Common installation locations include office building corridor doors, school hallway doors, hospital room and service corridor entries, retail stockroom doors, and any door that sees consistent traffic from people carrying loads or using wheeled equipment. It's also specified on the push side of doors where foot-opening is common and the door finish would otherwise show wear within the first year of installation.
Stainless steel construction and US32D satin finish
The BKICK834 is stainless steel at .050" gauge. That thickness is the standard commercial specification for kick plates and provides enough rigidity to resist denting from moderate cart and equipment impact while staying thin enough to install flush without interfering with door sweep seals or floor clearance. Stainless steel won't rust, pit, or corrode in wet-mopped environments or areas with humidity variation, which is a practical advantage over painted steel alternatives in restrooms, kitchen service corridors, and exterior-adjacent openings.
The US32D satin stainless finish (also referenced as finish 630) is a brushed, non-reflective surface that doesn't show fingerprints or smudges the way a polished chrome or bright finish does. It's one of the most common architectural hardware finishes in commercial construction precisely because it stays presentable in high-traffic conditions with minimal maintenance. The satin surface also coordinates with the majority of US26D satin chrome lever hardware, hinges, and push/pull hardware installed on commercial doors, making it a natural finish match across a complete opening hardware package.
ANSI/BHMA J102 compliance and installation
The BKICK834 conforms to ANSI/BHMA J102, the industry standard for door protection plates covering material, finish, and fastener requirements for commercial kick plates. Specifiers working from a project hardware schedule that calls for ANSI J102 compliance can list the BKICK834 directly. Installation uses the included #6 x 5/8" screws, which are appropriate for standard hollow metal and solid core wood door applications at this plate gauge. The plate mounts to the door face with no special preparation required.
