About this item
The dormakaba Simplex 900 Series 9040000 is a fully mechanical pushbutton deadbolt lock in the Model 904 configuration, designed for light commercial and residential doors 1-3/4" to 2-1/8" thick. It operates with no batteries and no wiring, runs a single access code shared across all users, and delivers a 1" throw deadbolt with manual relocking. The lock is field reversible for right and left hand doors, weather resistant, and programs directly from the keypad without removing the lock from the door. Available in satin chrome (26D) and satin brass (04) with a 1-year manufacturer warranty.
Fully mechanical operation and what that means in practice
Mechanical pushbutton locks don't rely on batteries, power supplies, or electronic components of any kind. Pressing the correct button sequence directly actuates the locking mechanism through a purely mechanical linkage. That means no dead batteries locking people out, no power outage failures, and no electronic components to service or replace over time. For light commercial settings like small offices, storage units, interior restricted areas, and residential applications like garages or side entries, the mechanical approach keeps ongoing maintenance essentially at zero once the lock is installed and the code is set.
The 900 Series uses a single access code shared across all users of the door. There's no user hierarchy, no individual code assignment, and no audit trail. This is the right operational model when everyone who needs access is trusted equally and the management overhead of individual code tracking isn't justified by the security requirement. A single shared code also simplifies code changes: when the code needs to rotate, one change from the keypad updates access for the entire group immediately.
Manual relocking and the Model 904 door thickness range
The 9040000 is the Model 904 configuration in the 900 Series. The key distinction within this series is door thickness range: Model 904 fits doors 1-3/4" to 2-1/8" thick. If the door is 1-3/8" to 1-1/2" thick, the correct model is the 902, which is a separate product. Measuring the door thickness before ordering is the single most important step to avoid a fitment issue on delivery.
The deadbolt on the 904 has a 1" throw and must be manually relocked after each use. Unlike auto-relocking electronic deadbolts that reset automatically when the door closes, the 900 Series deadbolt stays in the retracted position until someone manually turns the thumbturn or uses the keypad sequence to throw the bolt back. For applications where users consistently relock after entry, this is a non-issue. For high-traffic doors where consistent relocking can't be guaranteed, a different lock type may be more appropriate. The lock is field reversible for right and left hand swing doors without tools or disassembly.
Weather resistance and installation
The 900 Series carries a weather-resistant rating, making it suitable for exterior residential doors and light commercial exterior applications where exposure to rain or humidity is expected. Installation follows a standard cylindrical deadbolt preparation — no special door prep is required beyond the bore holes a conventional deadbolt uses. Programming happens directly from the keypad with the lock installed and the door in place, so initial setup doesn't require any disassembly or back-of-door access.
