Falcon B501 Grade 2 Cylindrical Lock, Entry Function

The Falcon B501 is a Grade 2 cylindrical entry lock built to ANSI F82 push button locking function, designed for government, military, retail, industrial, and multi-family applications where medium-duty commercial security is the right specification. The inside push button locks the outside lever until it's released by key or by rotating the inside lever. The inside lever is always free for egress. The deadlocking latchbolt uses a solid round bar stock DL bar to prevent latch jamming and lockouts. Non-handed design installs on left or right hand doors. Meets ANSI/BHMA A156.2 Series 4000 Grade 2 and carries a UL 3-hour A label rating.

How ANSI F82 push button entry function operates

ANSI F82 is the entry function variant that adds a push button inside the door rather than requiring a thumbturn or separate lockout tool. When the inside push button is pressed, the outside lever locks immediately. The only ways to release the outside lever from that locked state are: insert and turn a key in the outside cylinder, or rotate the inside lever. Neither closing the door nor any outside manipulation resets the button. This gives occupants a single-press lockout that holds until they intentionally release it from inside or someone uses a key from outside.

This is a practical distinction from standard entrance function, where a thumbturn controls the outside lever state. The push button on the B501 is easier to operate quickly, making it a common specification in school classrooms, healthcare rooms, office suites, and multi-family residential units where fast inside lockdown is a real operational need. The inside lever is always unlocked regardless of the push button position, which keeps egress immediate at all times.

Cylinder construction and keying options

The B501 cylinder is machined from solid brass housing and plug with phosphor bronze springs and a standard G keyway. The cylinder is drilled with 6-pin chambers, pinned in 5, and the cylinder assembly is removable for rekeying without replacing the lock body. This means a locksmith can rekey the B501 on-site when key control changes without uninstalling the lockset. Six or seven pin interchangeable core cylinders are also available for facilities running IC master key systems, in which case the A keyway is standard. Two nickel silver keys ship with every lock. Keying options at ordering include single keyed, keyed alike, master keyed, construction keyed, and keyed different configurations.

Trim, rose, latch, and finish specifications

Roses are 3-1/2" diameter, heavy wrought brass or bronze, installed over steel rose inserts that are through-bolted through the door. The through-bolt attachment method provides torque resistance that screw-mounted roses don't match. Levers are pressure cast solid material with no inserts, finished to match the mating rose and trim parts. Two lever styles are available: D (Dane) and Q (Quantum). The latch has a 1/2" bolt projection and a self-adjusting front that accommodates both flat and beveled door edges without modification. The 2-3/4" backset ships with a 2-1/4" x 1-1/8" latchface; the 2-3/8" backset ships with a 2-1/4" x 1" latchface.

Six finishes are available: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 612 satin bronze, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 625 bright chrome, and 626 satin chrome. The strike is a 4-7/8" x 1-1/4" ANSI curved lip per ANSI A115, with a T-strike option for non-standard frame conditions.
