About this item
The Falcon SC80A-3049/PA is a hold-open closer arm for Falcon SC80A Series door closers, supplied with the PA (parallel arm) bracket. A door closer arm is the linkage that connects the closer body to the door frame and controls how the door swings and closes. This one is the hold-open version: it lets you prop the door open at a set point and have it stay there until you manually push it closed, instead of self-closing every time. It's non-handed, has an adjustable forearm assembly to fit a range of doors and frame reveal conditions, and includes the PA shoe so it can be installed in a parallel arm configuration. The finish is aluminum (silver aluminum painted).
What a hold-open arm does and when to use it
This is the key thing to understand before ordering. A standard closer arm closes the door every time it's opened. A hold-open arm adds a mechanical detent: open the door past a certain point and the arm holds it open, so it stays put for loading, moving carts through, ventilation, or propping an entrance during business hours. Push the door past the hold point (or pull it closed) and it releases and closes normally. The hold-open position on the SC80A arm is adjustable, so you set where the door catches.
One important note: a hold-open arm is not for fire-rated door openings. Fire doors must self-close and latch, so they require a standard (non-hold-open) arm or an electrically controlled hold-open tied to the fire alarm. Use this hold-open arm only on non-fire-rated doors where holding the door open is allowed.
Three mounting options in one arm
The SC80A-3049/PA is flexible, which is why it's a practical replacement or upgrade arm. It mounts three ways: hinge (pull) side, top jamb, or parallel arm. The included PA shoe (bracket) is what enables the parallel-arm mounting, where the closer mounts on the push side and the arm runs parallel to the door, the most common commercial configuration because it's more vandal-resistant and gives a cleaner look. The adjustable forearm accommodates different frame reveals, so it adapts to your specific door and frame rather than requiring an exact match.
Because it's non-handed, the same arm works on left-hand and right-hand doors, so you don't have to specify handling when ordering.

Why choose the Falcon SC80A-3049/PA
Falcon (an Allegion brand) builds dependable, value-priced commercial door hardware, and the SC80A Series is its medium-duty Grade 1 closer line for schools, retail, restaurants, and offices. This hold-open arm is the right part when you want an SC80A closer to hold the door open on demand, or when you're replacing a damaged or wrong-function arm on an existing SC80A closer. The three mounting options, adjustable forearm, and included PA bracket make it adaptable to most non-fire door and frame conditions, and the non-handed design keeps ordering simple.
One thing to confirm before ordering: this is the hold-open arm for the SC80A Series, so verify your closer is an SC80A (not an SC70A, SC81A, or SC91A, which use their own arms) and that hold-open is permitted on your door. If you need a dead-stop hold-open instead, Falcon offers the SC80A-3049DS in the same line.
