About this item
The Falcon W101S-SR is a Grade 2 passage lever set with a small rose from the Falcon W Series, built to ANSI function F75. The latch operates by lever from both sides at all times. There's no cylinder, no key, and no locking mechanism of any kind on this function. Non-handed design installs on right or left hand doors without modification. It meets ANSI/BHMA A156.2 Series 4000 Grade 2 and carries a UL 3-hour A label rating. The small rose designation (SR) means the rose diameter is 2-9/16", which suits applications where a standard 3-1/2" rose would look oversized or wouldn't clear adjacent trim conditions.
What the small rose changes about this passage lever
Rose size is often treated as a purely aesthetic specification, but there are practical reasons to choose a smaller rose for certain commercial and multi-family applications. A 2-9/16" rose has a smaller footprint on the door face, which matters when the door has existing hardware, a glass lite, or a surface-mounted device close to the bore location. On narrower stile doors or on residential-scale commercial doors where the standard rose would visually dominate the panel, the small rose produces a cleaner result. The SR suffix is what distinguishes this model from the standard W101S, which uses a larger rose diameter.
The rose itself is heavy wrought brass or bronze over a steel rose insert that is through-bolted through the door. That through-bolt attachment creates a mechanically rigid connection that resists the lateral loosening and wobble that screw-only mounted roses develop under repeated use. Levers are pressure-cast zinc solid construction with no inserts, finished to match the mating trim parts. Two lever styles are available: Dane (D), an angular contemporary profile, and Quantum (Q), an angular institutional profile.
W Series Grade 2 positioning and door thickness range
The W Series is Falcon's value-positioned Grade 2 line, designed to match commercial trim aesthetics at a lower cost than the B Series while still meeting ANSI Grade 2 requirements. Grade 2 at the W Series level is the appropriate specification for retail, light commercial, multi-family residential, and government buildings where door cycling is regular but doesn't reach the high volumes that would justify Grade 1. The W101S-SR fits doors 1-3/8" to 1-3/4" thick, which covers light commercial hollow metal and solid wood doors in the standard residential and multi-family thickness range.
Standard backset is 2-3/4". The 2-3/8" backset option is available for doors prepped to that dimension. The 1/2" stainless steel latch has a self-adjusting front that accommodates both flat and beveled door edges without modification. The 2-3/4" backset ships with a 2-1/4" x 1-1/8" latchface; the 2-3/8" backset ships with a 2-1/4" x 1" latchface. The ANSI 4-7/8" x 1-1/4" curved lip strike ships standard per ANSI A115.2, with a T-strike option for frame conditions where the standard strike doesn't seat correctly.
Finishes, mechanism construction, and keyed W Series alternatives
Six finishes are available: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 612 satin bronze, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 625 bright chrome, and 626 satin chrome. The mechanism is constructed from brass or cold-formed steel, zinc plated and dichromated for rust resistance, with stainless steel springs. Attachment uses two screws through the steel rose insert into the outer rose assembly plus two additional screws into the chassis, creating a four-point connection that is more resistant to loosening than a two-screw design.
