Falcon W301S Grade 2 Privacy Lever Set

The Falcon W301S is a Grade 2 privacy lever set from the Falcon W Series, built to ANSI function F76. The latch operates by lever from both sides under normal conditions, and the inside push button locks the outside lever when engaged. Rotating the inside lever or closing the door releases the push button and frees the outside lever automatically. The inside lever is always free for egress, and the outside lever includes an emergency release slot for coin or tool override from outside. How ANSI F76 privacy function works on the W301S

Privacy function gives the inside occupant a quick way to lock the outside lever without a key. A single press of the inside push button engages the outside lever lockout immediately. The outside lever then turns freely in the locked position but cannot retract the latch, so someone turning the handle from outside is stopped. Three things release that locked state: rotating the inside lever (which simultaneously retracts the latch and resets the button), closing the door (which mechanically resets the button through the door strike contact), or using the emergency release slot on the outside lever with a coin or a Falcon emergency release tool.

The emergency outside release is what separates privacy function from storeroom function in commercial hardware. Storeroom function requires a key from outside to release the lever at all times. Privacy function allows an authorized person outside, such as building staff responding to a medical emergency, to release the lockout without a key by using the slot on the outside lever face. This makes F76 the correct specification for restrooms, changing rooms, private offices, and hotel guestrooms in any occupancy type where emergency override is required.

Rose size, trim construction, and door preparation

The W301S uses a 3-5/8" diameter rose, which is the standard rose size in the W Series and is distinct from the smaller 2-9/16" rose on the W101S-SR small rose variant. The rose is heavy wrought brass or bronze installed over a through-bolted steel rose insert. Through-bolting is the key to long-term trim stability on privacy function locks, which experience repeated push button actuation in addition to normal lever cycling. A trim plate that loosens from screw-only mounting quickly becomes a service issue on privacy doors in multi-family and commercial settings.

Door thickness range is 1-3/8" to 1-3/4" standard. Standard backset is 2-3/4". The 2-3/8" backset is available for doors prepped to that dimension. The 1/2" stainless steel latch has a self-adjusting front for flat or beveled door edges. The four-point attachment method uses two screws through the steel rose insert into the outer rose assembly and two additional screws into the chassis, providing a rigid connection that resists loosening under the combination of button actuation and lever cycling that privacy function doors experience.

Two lever styles are available: Dane (D), an angular contemporary profile, and Quantum (Q), an angular institutional profile. Both are solid pressure-cast zinc with no inserts, finished to match the mating trim.
