Falcon W581 - SR Grade 2 Storeroom Lock - Small Rose

The Falcon W581-SR is the small rose version of the Grade 2 storeroom cylindrical lever lock from the Falcon W Series, built to ANSI function F86. The SR designation means the rose diameter is 2-9/16", which is smaller than the standard 3-3/8" rose on the W581. The outside lever is always locked. Entry requires a key every time. The inside lever is always free for egress. Meets ANSI/BHMA A156.2 Series 4000 Grade 2 and UL listed for 3-hour A label fire door assemblies. When does a storeroom lock need a small rose

The small rose on the W581-SR exists to solve a specific installation problem. A 3-3/8" rose sits well on most commercial hollow metal doors with standard bore spacing and clear door panels. But when the bore is close to a glass lite, a door edge, or another piece of hardware already on the door, a full-size rose can overlap the adjacent element or look visually crowded on a narrow stile. The 2-9/16" rose footprint is smaller by over 3/4" in diameter, which provides the clearance needed in those tight installation conditions without requiring a different lock function or platform.

The small rose also suits retrofit projects where the existing door has hardware marks or paint shadows from a previous lock with a smaller trim profile. Installing a larger rose in that situation leaves visible gaps at the edges of the rose footprint. The W581-SR fits within the existing footprint on doors previously fitted with compact trim, keeping the installation looking intentional rather than patched. Both the standard W581 and the W581-SR carry the same function, grade, and certifications. The only difference is the rose size and the lever style options available.

Storeroom function and deadlocking latch on the W581-SR

ANSI function F86 means the outside lever is inoperable at all times without a key. There is no push button, no thumbturn, and no tool that overrides the outside lever lockout from the interior side. A key in the outside cylinder is the only method of exterior entry. The inside lever is always free, providing immediate egress regardless of the outside lever state. The 1/2" stainless steel latchbolt is deadlocking: when the door is fully closed, an auxiliary latch pins the main bolt, preventing it from being retracted by shimming or external manipulation through the door-to-frame gap. The latch front is self-adjusting for flat or beveled doors, and latchfaces are 2-1/4" x 1" at 2-3/8" backset or 2-1/4" x 1-1/8" at 2-3/4" backset.

Cylinder, rose construction, and installation specs

The rose is 2-9/16" diameter, heavy wrought brass or bronze, installed over a steel rose insert that is through-bolted through the door. Through-bolting resists the lateral loosening that develops over time with screw-only mounted trim on doors that cycle repeatedly. The lock chassis is secured by two screws through the steel insert and two additional screws into the chassis assembly for a four-point connection. Combination screws for wood or metal doors and frames are included. Door thickness range is 1-3/8" to 1-3/4" standard. Backset is 2-3/4" standard with a 2-3/8" option available. The 4-7/8" x 1-1/4" ANSI curved lip strike meets ANSI A115.2. Cylinders are solid brass housing and plug, available with conventional G keyway standard, Schlage C keyway, or 6 or 7-pin SFIC in the A keyway. Two nickel silver keys ship standard.
