What fail safe and fail secure mean

This is the first decision on any electric strike, and the 5000C lets you pick either in the field. Fail secure (fail locked) keeps the door locked when power is lost, you need a powered release or a key to get in, while exit stays free from the inside. That suits most exterior and security doors, since an outage leaves the door secured. Fail safe (fail open) unlocks on power loss, for doors that must release in an emergency.
