About this item
The LCN 2215-STD-AL is a Size 5 concealed in-frame door closer from the LCN 2210 high security series, finished in aluminum and designed for correctional facilities, vandal-prone environments, institutional buildings, and high-traffic applications where complete concealment and tamper resistance are required. The cylinder mounts in the head frame and the arm and track install in the top rail of the door, leaving no external components accessible from the door face. Ships with a standard cylinder, finish plate, standard security arm, security track roller, security track, and Torx machine screw pack. Handing is selected at ordering.
What high security concealed in-frame means for correctional and institutional applications
Standard surface-mounted door closers expose the closer body, arm, and adjustment valves on the door or frame face. In correctional and high-security institutional environments, those exposed components become targets. The arm can be wrenched, the valves can be tampered with, and the body can be damaged by occupants with access to tools or leverage. The 2210 Series eliminates those vulnerabilities by concealing the entire closer mechanism inside the door frame and door top rail.
The 2215-STD uses special components specifically designed to minimize tampering and vandalism in this environment. The forged steel single lever arm and heavy steel mounting plate are specified for correctional applications. The security track and security track roller are paired with the standard security arm to create an assembly that resists forced manipulation from inside the space. Torx machine screws replace standard Phillips or slot fasteners, preventing removal with common tools that might be improvised or smuggled into a correctional setting. The metal cover over the cylinder is standard on this model.
Body construction and door preparation requirements
The 2215-STD body is cast iron with a full complement bearing, a 1-1/2" diameter piston, and an 11/16" diameter double heat-treated pinion journal. Cast iron construction is the correct specification for institutional closer bodies because it resists the deformation that can occur in aluminum bodies under repeated forced-entry attempts. The All Weather Liquid X Fluid maintains consistent closing speed across a wide temperature range, which is relevant in correctional and institutional facilities where doors may be located in unconditioned corridors, vestibules, or exterior areas.
Door preparation for the 2215-STD requires a 1-1/4" (32mm) mortise in the top rail and a 3/8" (10mm) cutout at the top of the door on the stop face only. Minimum door thickness is 1-3/4" (44mm) and minimum door width is 28" (711mm). The head frame must be 5-3/4" wide by 4" high with a 2-3/16" rabbet. The steel mounting plate is 3/8" thick. These preparation requirements must be confirmed against the existing or planned door and frame construction before ordering, as the concealed installation cannot be adapted to frames or doors that don't meet these dimensions.
Size 5 specification, handing, and 15-year warranty
Size 5 is the closing force rating, appropriate for heavy commercial doors in high-traffic openings. The 2215-STD is available in right hand and left hand, which must be specified at ordering. Door handing is determined by the hinge position when viewed from the outside of the door: right-hand doors are hinged on the right, left-hand doors on the left. The 15-year warranty covers the closer body and mechanism, reflecting the durability expectations of the institutional and correctional market the 2210 Series is built for.
