LCN 4040XP-3049 Hold Open Arm

The LCN 4040XP-3049 is a hold open arm accessory for the LCN 4040XP series door closer, sold separately from the closer body. It allows the door to be held open at any angle and releases when the door is pushed closed. This arm is specified when a 4040XP closer is already installed and the application requires hold open capability that wasn't included in the original arm configuration, or when the existing arm needs to be replaced. Available in five finishes: aluminum, dark bronze painted, light bronze painted, satin brass painted, and black painted.

What hold open arm function does and when it's needed

A standard door closer arm returns the door to the closed position after every opening cycle. That's the correct behavior for fire-rated doors, exit corridors, and any opening where the door must close automatically after each use. Hold open arm function changes that behavior. The 4040XP-3049 arm holds the door open at any point in its swing arc and maintains that open position until someone physically pushes the door to close it. Once pushed past the hold open release point, the closer takes over and completes the closing cycle normally.

The 3049 arm is specifically designed for the LCN 4040XP series closer body. The 4040XP is a heavy-duty commercial closer with a wide range of arm configurations available across regular arm, hold open, extra duty, CUSH-N-STOP, and other variants. The 3049 is the arm-only hold open accessory, not a complete closer unit. It's ordered when the 4040XP closer body is already mounted and only the arm needs to change or be added.

If the closer body and hold open arm are being ordered together for a new installation, the 4040XP HW/PA is the complete unit that includes both the closer body and hold open arm pre-configured from the factory. The 3049 arm-only option is the correct order for retrofits and replacements on existing 4040XP installations. Confirm the existing closer on the door is the 4040XP series before ordering. The 3049 is not cross-compatible with other LCN closer series that use different arm attachment geometry.

Five finish options are available: AL aluminum, 689 dark bronze painted, 691 light bronze painted, 696 satin brass painted, and 693 black painted. Select the finish that matches the installed 4040XP closer body for a consistent appearance on the door.
