What multi-sized means and why it matters on a commercial project

A single-size closer is factory-set to one closing force level. The 7500 uses separate, independent valves for latch speed, sweep speed, and backcheck intensity, which allows each phase of the closing cycle to be tuned independently without affecting the others. Sweep speed controls door movement from the full open position down to approximately 10° from closed. Latch speed controls the final 10° of travel into the closed and latched position. Tuning latch speed separately from sweep speed lets the installer set a fast initial close that slows precisely at the end to avoid slamming.

The backcheck valve activates at approximately 75° of door opening and cushions the door when it's pushed open quickly or forcibly beyond its normal range. An adjustable backcheck positioning valve extends that cushioning zone up to approximately 95°, which is useful on doors where the standard 75° activation point doesn't provide enough deceleration before the door contacts the stop. The rack and pinion mechanism provides smooth, consistent force delivery through the full opening and closing arc without the velocity variation that can occur in piston-only closer designs.

Fluid performance, compliance certifications, and finish options

The 7500 uses NorGlide multi-viscosity hydraulic fluid, formulated to maintain stable viscosity from temperatures as low as -40°F through high heat conditions. Temperature-related closing speed variation is one of the most common field complaints on standard closer installations, particularly on exterior doors that experience significant temperature swings between seasons. The NorGlide formulation minimizes that variation, reducing service calls related to seasonal speed adjustment.

The closer body is aluminum alloy with a molded plastic cover. All 7500 Series closers with non-hold open arms carry UL listing for labeled fire doors to UL10C and UBC-72 for 3-hour assemblies. The 7500 is also NYC MEA approved and manufactured in an ISO 9001 certified facility. Finish options include 689 silver aluminum, 690 dark bronze painted, 691 light bronze painted, 696 satin brass painted, and 693 black painted, plus several electroplated variants.
