About this item
The PDQ CL176 is an inter-connected lock that combines a passage lever, a thumbturn deadbolt, an exterior indicator, and an emergency key override in one cylindrical lock body. It's Grade 2 standard duty, built for hospitality, assisted living, multi-family, and private office applications where a resident or occupant needs to lock a deadbolt from inside but staff needs emergency access from outside - and where the outside of the door needs to show whether the deadbolt is currently engaged.
What Inter-Connected Means and Why It Matters
An inter-connected lock mechanically links the latch bolt and deadbolt. On a standard two-piece setup (a separate passage lever and a separate deadbolt), occupants who lock the deadbolt and then try to exit have to turn the deadbolt thumb turn and then the lever. Two separate motions, two separate hardware pieces. In an emergency, or for elderly residents with limited hand strength, that sequence adds friction.
On the CL176, turning the inside lever retracts both the deadbolt and the latch bolt simultaneously. One motion, one lever pull, the door opens - even if the deadbolt is fully extended. The lever is always the exit path. This is why inter-connected locks are standard in assisted living, memory care, and multi-family applications where ADA-compliant single-action egress matters. How the CL176 Function Works
Outside levers are always free. The latch bolt retracts when either lever is turned. There is no key cylinder on the outside for the deadbolt. A thumbturn on the inside extends and retracts the deadbolt. An indicator on the outside displays whether the deadbolt is projected - the visual signal used in hotel rooms and multi-family units so housekeeping or staff can see from the corridor that the room is occupied and the deadbolt is engaged before knocking or using a master key.
The emergency key outside is a separate, low-profile cylinder that retracts the deadbolt only in an emergency - a staff member who needs access when the occupant has deadbolted the room and can't respond. This is a different function from a standard entry cylinder. The emergency key provides deadbolt retraction; it doesn't control the latch bolt function.
SFIC Compatibility and Keying
The CL176 accepts BEST SFIC (Small Format Interchangeable Core) in 6-pin and 7-pin configurations - except in the Memphis lever style. For hotels and multi-family buildings running BEST IC programs, the CL176 integrates into the existing key control infrastructure without requiring a separate cylinder order. For buildings on conventional keying, the default SCC keyway (Schlage C Compatible) allows keying into existing Schlage-compatible master key systems.
Keying options at order: Keyed Different (KD), Keyed Alike (KA), Master Keyed (MK), Construction Master Keyed (CMK), Grand Master Keyed (GMK), or Zero Bitted (KO) for field keying.
