About this item
The PDQ GP126 is the Passage function in PDQ's GP Series Grade 2 heavy duty cylindrical lever lock. Passage means both levers are always free. There's no push button, no key cylinder, no locking mechanism at all - the latch bolt retracts when either lever is turned, every time, from either side. It installs in the standard ANSI 160 and 161 door preparation: 2-1/8-inch face bore, 1-inch edge bore, 2-3/4-inch backset standard. It retrofits all major competitor door preps on existing doors without re-drilling.
Grade 2 passage locks get underspecified more than any other lock type. The reasoning goes: the lock doesn't lock anything, so why spend on Grade 1? The lever torque load tells a different story. Passage doors in high-traffic commercial buildings - corridors, meeting rooms, break rooms, storage areas - handle hundreds of uses per day, often with shoulder pushes, cart impacts, and lever abuse from users who aren't thinking about hardware longevity. The GP126's lever torque rating exceeds the ANSI/BHMA A156.2 abusive lever torque test standard by more than three times. That's not a Grade 1 vs Grade 2 distinction - it's a PDQ GP Series design specification that beats most Grade 2 passage levers on the market on the metric that actually determines how long a passage lever lasts.
The chassis is heavy duty diecast with investment cast and cold rolled steel components, stainless steel mechanism. 65-degree lever rotation. Concealed screws on the trim. Eight-year warranty. Assembled in Lancaster, PA. For all commercial cylindrical lever locks, browse our commercial locks catalog.
What "ASA 161 Door Prep" Means for Installers
The ASA 161 prep is the current standard cylindrical lock door preparation. The 161 calls for a 2-1/8-inch through-bore in the door face, a 1-inch cross-bore in the door edge for the latch assembly, and specific centerline spacing between the two. This is the prep drilled into hollow metal doors at the factory for standard commercial cylindrical lock sets.
The 160 prep (older standard) uses a slightly different face bore location and is found on older buildings and some international door manufacturers. The GP126 fits both. If you're retrofitting a GP126 into an existing door that previously had a different brand's cylindrical lock, confirm the prep type before ordering. Both 160 and 161 compatibility means virtually any standard commercial door takes the GP126 without modification.
GP vs GT vs XGT: Where GP126 Sits in the PDQ Lineup
The PDQ GP Series is Grade 2 Heavy Duty. The GT Series is Grade 1. The XGT Series is Grade 1 Extra Heavy Duty. All three share the same lever profiles - Philadelphia, Boston, and Miami - and the same trim aesthetic, which allows specifiers to mix grades across a building while maintaining visual consistency at every door.
The GP126 is the correct passage lever when the hardware schedule calls for Grade 2 on corridor and non-locking doors. Where Grade 1 is required - on fire-rated assemblies, exterior doors, or where the hardware schedule specifically requires Grade 1 - the XGT126 (Grade 1 Extra Heavy Duty Passage) is the step up with the same door prep and lever profile.
