Falcon D241 Single Cylinder Deadbolt

The Falcon D241 is a Grade 2 single cylinder deadbolt from the D200 medium duty series, rated ANSI/BHMA A156.5 Grade 2 and UL listed for 3-hour A label fire-rated doors. It operates on ANSI function E21522: the bolt is thrown or retracted by key from outside or by thumbturn from inside, and it deadlocks automatically when fully thrown. The 1" bolt contains a free-turning hardened steel saw-resistant roller that prevents cutting attacks. Backset is adjustable from 2-3/8" to 2-3/4", and the non-handed design installs on right or left hand doors swinging in or out. Available in bright brass (605), satin chrome (626), and oil rubbed bronze (613).

What the saw-resistant roller inside the bolt does

The 1/4" thick hardened steel roller inside the D241 bolt is a meaningful security feature, not a marketing description. When a cutting tool contacts the bolt face, the roller spins freely rather than engaging the blade. That spinning prevents the saw from getting traction, protecting the bolt from the most common forced-entry cutting method used against exposed deadbolts. The roller is housed within the full 1" projection bolt and doesn't affect the bolt's throw or deadlocking function in any way.

The automatic deadlocking is a separate and equally important security feature. When the bolt is fully thrown, it deadlocks mechanically without any additional action required from the user. A manually operated latch or a springbolt can be pushed back with enough force or shimmed from the gap between the door and frame. A fully thrown and deadlocked bolt resists both of those attacks because it can only be retracted by key or thumbturn, not by external pressure on the bolt face.

Adjustable backset and door thickness range

The D241 ships with an adjustable backset that covers both the 2-3/8" and 2-3/4" standard dimensions without requiring a separate backset collar or second order. The faceplate is 1-1/8" x 2-1/4" and the strike is a 2-3/4" x 1-1/8" lipless strike, included standard. The adjustable backset is a practical advantage on retrofit and replacement projects where the existing door prep may not match the new lock's nominal backset exactly, and it eliminates the need to verify which backset the existing hole pattern uses before ordering.

Standard door thickness range is 1-3/8" to 1-7/8". For thicker doors, configurations up to 2-1/4" are available at ordering. The lock attaches to the door using 1/4" heat-treated steel through-bolts that pass through a steel plate and thread directly into the back of the outer cylinder housing. This method is mechanically superior to wood screw mounting because the heat-treated steel through-bolts resist shear forces that attack the connection between the lock body and the door face.

Cylinder, keyway, and finish options

The D241 cylinder is machined from solid brass plug and housing, drilled with 6-pin chambers and pinned in 5 standard. A 7-pin cylinder is available for higher security keying configurations. Two nickel silver keys ship standard.
