The Schlage A80 Orbit (ORB) is a Grade 2 storeroom cylindrical lock conforming to ANSI F86. The outside knob is permanently fixed and rigid: it rotates freely in the hand but produces no latch retraction under any condition without a key. The only path to entry from outside is a key in the outside cylinder. The inside knob is always free, retracting the latch immediately for egress without a key, without any unlock step, and without any restriction. Certified to ANSI/BHMA A156.2, 1996, Series 4000 Grade 2. UL listed for all functions up to 3-hour fire door assemblies. Why storeroom function is the most secure standard cylindrical lock option

Among the standard cylindrical lock functions, storeroom is the most restrictive for outside access. Entrance function allows the outside knob to be unlocked by a push button toggle from inside, which means someone with inside access can change the outside knob's state. Classroom function uses a key to lock the outside knob but the same key can return it to the free state. Storeroom function has no toggle and no free state for the outside knob. It's permanently rigid. Key is the only override, every single time, regardless of what happens on the interior side.

This is specified for storage rooms, server rooms, utility closets, janitor rooms, medication rooms, small offices, and any other space where unrestricted outside access creates a security risk but free egress for occupants inside must always be available. The A80 ships standard with the Schlage C keyway, the most widely distributed residential and light commercial keyway in North America. For applications requiring controlled key duplication, two restricted keyway options are available: Everest C123 and Everest C145, both Schlage patented restricted keyways. Keying configurations at ordering include standard keyed different, keyed alike, master keyed, construction keyed, and interchangeable core (IC). The Orbit knob uses the key-removable outside knob design shared across the A-Series: the outside knob assembly can be removed in the field for cylinder replacement or rekeying without full lockset disassembly. A80 Orbit vs A80PD and installation specifications

The A80 Orbit (ORB) and A80PD share identical function, grade, door prep, and keying. The difference is the knob design. The Orbit is a traditional round sphere profile suited for both commercial and residential applications and for door schedules where a conventional round knob is specified. The PD designation uses a different knob profile. Choose based on the aesthetic that matches adjacent hardware. Both install on doors 1-3/8" to 1-7/8" thick with 2-3/8" or 2-3/4" backset. The 1/2" throw latch measures 1" x 2-1/4" and is reversible for right and left hand doors. The T-strike ships with a dust box as standard. No exposed mounting screws are visible on the finished installation.
