About this item
The Schlage ALX10 is a Grade 2 passage cylindrical lock with a plain lever on both sides, no lock, no key, just a latch that lets the door open and close. The passage function (ANSI F75) is the simplest one in the ALX line: both levers are always unlocked and free to operate, the spring latch holds the door closed, and there's no way to lock it. It's the lock you use on doors that need to latch but never need to be secured, closets, storage rooms, corridors, and pairs where the door just has to stay shut against a stop. The ALX10 is non-keyed, non-handed, and part of Schlage's modular ALX Series, which carries a 10-year warranty and Grade 2 certification.
What the passage function does
This is worth being clear on, because "passage" trips people up. A passage latch has no locking mechanism at all. Turn either lever and the latch retracts so the door opens, let go and the spring latch keeps it closed against the frame. There's no button, no key, no thumbturn, nothing to lock. That's exactly the point: on a closet, a stockroom that doesn't need security, a hallway door, or one leaf of a pair, you want the door to latch and stay shut but never lock someone in or out. The ALX10 does that job and nothing more, which is why it's the most economical function in the series.
Because it's non-handed, the ALX10 fits left-hand and right-hand doors without specifying, and the plain-lever-both-sides design means it looks and works the same from either face.
ALX Series modular design and durability
The ALX10 benefits from the strengths of the whole ALX platform. The series was built on the proven AL Series and adds modular, field-configurable design, the "X factor" that lets the same chassis support different functions. Durability comes from a stainless steel latch bolt, deep-drawn spindles with five points of lever engagement, and Grade 1 compression springs that keep the levers from drooping or wobbling over time. The chassis is zinc and steel with a zinc dichromate plating for corrosion resistance, and it fits doors 1-3/8" to 1-3/4" thick.
You can specify the ALX10 with a wide choice of levers, Athens, Latitude, Longitude, Rhodes, Sparta, and more, in 10 architectural finishes, so it matches the rest of the ALX hardware in the building. It's also designed to suit the Grade 1 ND Series, so you can mix Grade 2 ALX where it makes sense and Grade 1 ND where you need more strength, on the same key system and lever look.

Why choose the Schlage ALX10
Schlage is one of the most specified commercial lock brands in the country, and the ALX10 brings that name to the passage function at a Grade 2 price. You get a durable, ADA-compliant, fire-listed passage latch with the modular ALX chassis, a broad lever and finish selection, and the option to suite it with Grade 1 ND locks elsewhere in the building. For any door that needs to latch but never lock, the ALX10 is the straightforward, durable choice, and choosing the same ALX series across passage, privacy, office, classroom, and storeroom doors keeps your hardware consistent.
One thing to confirm before ordering: passage means no locking at all. If the door ever needs to lock, you want a different ALX function, the ALX40 for privacy, the ALX50 for office, the ALX70 for classroom, or the ALX80 for storeroom. Choose your lever style and finish to match the rest of the building.
