About this item
The Accentra (Yale) 1109 is a 6-pin rim cylinder designed for use with exit devices and exit device trim. Also referenced as the Yale 1109/6 in the field, this cylinder is the standard rim cylinder used across Yale exit device applications requiring a keyed outside trim cylinder. Multiple keyways are available across the GC through TE series designations, and the cylinder is offered in finishes including 626 satin chrome, 625 bright chrome, 606 satin brass, 605 bright brass, and 613 oil-rubbed bronze. Select keyway and finish at the time of ordering. SKU: 1109.
What the Yale 1109 rim cylinder is and where it is installed
A rim cylinder is a cylinder that mounts on the surface of the door, secured from the back of the door with a connecting bar (tailpiece) that engages the exit device mechanism. The 1109 is the rim cylinder used with Yale exit devices when a keyed cylinder is required on the exterior trim. When the exit device lever or trim on the exterior of the door is turned, it engages the rim cylinder. The cylinder, when operated by key, retracts the exit device latch to allow exterior entry.
The 1109 is not a standalone lock. It's a cylinder component that integrates into an exit device assembly. Exit devices are installed on fire doors, egress doors, stairwell doors, and high-traffic commercial egress points where interior egress must be immediate (push bar operates from inside) while exterior entry is key-controlled. The 1109 provides that exterior key control as part of the exit device trim assembly. For key blanks compatible with the Yale 1109 keyways, the key blanks catalog covers the available options. For cylinders, cores, and key components across other applications, the cylinders, cores, and keys section is available.
How to select the correct Yale 1109 rim cylinder keyway for your key system
The 1109 is available in a range of keyway designations from the GC series through the TE series. The keyway determines which key blank the cylinder accepts and how it integrates into an existing master key or grand master key system. When the 1109 is being added to an existing Yale or Accentra key system, the keyway on the replacement cylinder must match the keyway already in use across the rest of the facility's door hardware.
When specifying a new installation from scratch, the keyway is selected based on the key system and master key program being established for the project. A locksmith or key control manager typically determines the keyway designation when setting up or expanding a keyed-alike or master-keyed system. Confirm the correct keyway designation with the facility's key control authority before ordering. Rekeying the cylinder after delivery is also possible to match the cylinder to an existing key cut without changing the keyway itself.
Available finishes on the Yale 1109 rim cylinder and how they match exit device trim
The 1109 is available in seven finishes: 626 satin chrome, 625 bright chrome, 606 satin brass, 605 bright brass, 613 oil-rubbed bronze, 613E, and a standard 613 variation. The finish on the rim cylinder should match the finish of the exit device trim it is paired with. Mismatched finishes between the rim cylinder rose and the exit device trim create a visible inconsistency on the door face that is typically flagged on commercial project hardware submittals.
Yale exit device trim is specified by finish code, and the 1109 finish designations correspond directly to the standard ANSI/BHMA finish codes used across the Accentra and Yale hardware line. Select the finish at the time of ordering based on the exit device trim finish specification for the project. For Accentra lever locks and other Accentra hardware in matching finishes, the Accentra lever locks catalog is available. For the full commercial lock and hardware range at American Locksets, browse the commercial locks section.
Confirm the keyway designation and finish code before ordering. The 1109 is sold as a cylinder only. Exit device not included.
