How the Yale 1193/6 LFIC rim cylinder differs from the standard Yale 1109 rim cylinder

The 1109 and the 1193 are both Yale rim cylinders for exit devices, but they use fundamentally different cylinder systems. The 1109 is a standard pin cylinder: it has a fixed pinned plug that accepts a specific key, is ordered in a specific keyway, and requires rekeying by a locksmith to change the key cut. The 1193 is an LFIC rim cylinder housing: it has no fixed pin cylinder inside. Instead, it accepts a Large Format Interchangeable Core that can be removed and replaced by an authorized person using a control key, without any tools and without disassembling the exit device or the cylinder housing.

This distinction matters to facilities that run an IC key control program. In an LFIC system, all cores across cylindrical locks, mortise locks, exit devices, and padlocks are the same format and can be exchanged in seconds. When a key is compromised or personnel change, the core is swapped out, not rekeyed. The 1193 extends this capability to the exit device rim cylinder position.
