About this item

The dormakaba Simplex EE1011/EE1011 is the back-to-back mechanical pushbutton cipher lock in the EE1000 Series, requiring a valid combination from both sides of the door to operate the latch. Each door face carries its own independent 5-button solid metal keypad and its own combination code, so the outside and inside codes can be different. The lock is fully mechanical — no batteries, no wiring, no network connection — and carries a 3-hour UL and ULC fire rating on A-label doors. Available in satin chrome (26D) and antique brass (05) as standard finishes.

What double-sided combination means and where this lock is specified

Most commercial locks secure one side. The outside is locked, the inside is free. The EE1011/EE1011 changes that entirely. Both sides of the door require a combination to retract the latch. Entry from outside needs the outside code. Exit from inside needs the inside code. Neither side can pass through the door without the correct combination for that face.

This configuration is specified for environments where movement in both directions needs to be credentialed and tracked through the act of code entry itself. Standard applications include SCIFs, secure research labs, data center vestibules, armory doors, pharmacy dispensaries, evidence rooms, secure vaults, and corporate IT rooms. The EE prefix in the model number stands for exterior-to-exterior, indicating combination access required on both door faces. The matching EE1011/EE1011 SKU designates combination-only function on both sides with no key override on either face. If either side needs key override capability, a different model in the EE1000 series handles that configuration.

Independent codes per side and what that enables operationally

Each face of the EE1011/EE1011 holds one combination code, set and changed independently. That independence has real operational value. The outside code can be shared with a broader group, such as all employees authorized to enter the space. The inside code can be restricted to a smaller group, such as authorized personnel permitted to exit with controlled materials or equipment. Changing one code doesn't affect the other. Code programming happens from the keypad with the lock installed on the door, without disassembly.

The EE1000 series uses the same 5-button combination system as other Simplex mechanical locks — one code per side, made from any combination of one to five of the five numbered buttons pressed individually or simultaneously. The combination system is the same platform that Simplex developed for government and military applications in the 1960s, where the product was designated a cypher lock in Department of Defense and GSA specifications. That term is still used in federal contracting and Division 08 specifications today, and the EE1011/EE1011 is the double-sided configuration the specification typically calls for.

Construction, handing, and installation specifications

The EE1011/EE1011 uses a heavy-duty cylindrical housing with a cast front housing, unified trim plate, and cast knobs on both faces. The pushbuttons are solid metal and vandal-resistant. Water resistance is rated high, making the lock suitable for semi-outdoor and industrial environments where the standard Simplex 5000 series would not be appropriate. Door thickness range is 1-3/8" to 2-1/4", covering standard commercial hollow metal construction. Standard backset is 2-3/4" with a 2-3/8" option available. The 1/2" throw latch is standard with a 3/4" throw option at additional cost.

The lock ships factory-handed for left-hand doors and is easily field-reversible for right-hand applications without special tools. There is no audit trail — the EE1011/EE1011 is fully mechanical with no electronic components. Browse the complete Simplex EE1000 double-sided lock series for models with key override and other function configurations. The broader mechanical pushbutton locks category covers single-sided Simplex and other keyless mechanical options. For single-sided lever-style Simplex hardware, the Simplex 5000 Series is available for comparison.

Select your backset and confirm door thickness before ordering. The EE1011/EE1011 is the combination-only, no key override configuration on both sides.
