About this item
The dormakaba Simplex EE1021M/EE1011-03 is a double-sided mechanical pushbutton lock in the EE1000 Series combining combination entry with Medeco and Yale key override on the outside and combination-only egress on the inside. Each side accepts its own independent access code. The key override on the outside side is prepared to accept a Medeco or Yale core, which ships separately. The lock is fully mechanical, no batteries and no wiring, with a 3-hour UL/ULC fire rating on A-label doors in bright brass (03/605) finish.
How the EE1021M/EE1011 asymmetric function works
The model number tells the function story directly. EE1021M designates the outside — combination entry with key override prepared for Medeco and Yale cores. EE1011 designates the inside — combination-only egress, no key override. This asymmetric configuration is specified when the security requirement on entry and exit are different from each other.
On the outside, an authorized user can enter by combination code or by key, giving building management two independent credential paths for the same door. The key override is the emergency access method when the combination has been compromised, changed, or is unknown to a responding security or facilities team. Because the key override accepts a Medeco or Yale core, it integrates into an existing Medeco or Yale high-security master key system without requiring a separate key control program. On the inside, egress is controlled by combination only. There's no key override on the interior face, which means exit is always intentional and credentialed but doesn't require managing a key for that side. This is the right configuration for openings where the facility needs strong entry control with a key fallback and controlled egress without interior key management complexity.
Medeco and Yale core preparation and what to order separately
The EE1021M suffix specifically designates preparation for Medeco and Yale cores. The lock ships without a core installed. The core must be sourced and ordered separately to complete the key override function. Medeco high-security cylinders use a patented sidebar mechanism that resists picking and bumping, and the key blanks are controlled through an authorized dealer network to prevent unauthorized duplication. Yale cores in the EE1021M context refer to Yale-compatible large format cores in the appropriate cam configuration for this lock body.
Confirm your existing key control system before selecting the core. If your facility runs a Medeco master key system, the EE1021M outside cylinder preparation is the correct match. If the Medeco key control requirement doesn't apply, the EE1021B variant is prepared for standard key override with a different cylinder format. For compatible cylinders and cores available on this site, the mortise cylinders section covers relevant options, and the cylinders, cores, and keys catalog provides the broader selection.
Construction, installation, and EE1000 series variants
The EE1021M/EE1011 shares the EE1000 series platform: heavy-duty cylindrical housing, cast front housing, unified trim plate, cast knobs on both faces, and vandal-resistant solid metal pushbuttons. Water resistance is rated high, covering semi-outdoor and industrial environments. Door thickness range is 1-3/8" to 2-1/4". Standard backset is 2-3/4" with a 2-3/8" option available. The lock ships factory-handed for left-hand doors and is easily field reversible for right-hand applications. The 1/2" throw latch is standard with a 3/4" option available.
Within the EE1000 series, three function configurations are available: EE1011/EE1011 for combination-only on both sides, EE1021/EE1011 for key override entry and combination egress, and EE1021/EE1021 for key override on both sides. The EE1021M variant specifically adds the Medeco and Yale core preparation to the outside face. Select your backset and confirm the Medeco or Yale core format before ordering. The core ships separately and must be specified to complete the key override function on the outside face.
