About this item
The PDQ KV116 is a single cylinder rim cylinder deadbolt. Key from outside retracts the bolt for entry. Thumbturn on the inside retracts the bolt for exit without a key. The lock body mounts surface-applied on the door face - no deep mortise, no through-door bore beyond a standard 2-1/8-inch prep. One-inch throw brass bolt with a 1/4-inch case-hardened steel roll pin. Non-handed. Works on 1-3/8 to 1-3/4-inch door thickness with conventional cylinders, up to 2 inches with SFIC.
This is the single cylinder version of the PDQ rim deadbolt line. The thumbturn on the inside is what separates it from the double cylinder KM137, where key is required from both sides. On the KV116, anyone inside the room can exit by turning the thumbturn without a key. That's the correct configuration for virtually every commercial interior egress application and for most residential-adjacent commercial settings where occupants must always have a way out.

KV116 vs KM116: Correct Series for the Application
The KV116 and KM116 are both single cylinder rim cylinder deadbolts, but they're different grades. The KV Series is commercial duty - grade comparable to PDQ's SD Series Grade 2 cylindrical locks, positioned for light commercial and residential-adjacent applications. The KM Series (KM116) is commercial grade heavy duty - grade comparable to PDQ's GP and SD Series Grade 2, with a UL10C positive pressure fire listing that the KV Series does not carry.
If the opening requires UL 10C fire compliance, the KM116 is the correct specification. If the opening is a non-fire-rated interior door, a screen door, an aluminum storefront secondary entrance, or a residential-adjacent commercial application where the fire listing isn't required, the KV116 covers the application at a lower price point.
Both use the same 1-inch throw brass bolt with the 1/4-inch case-hardened steel roll pin. Both use the same 6-pin brass rim cylinder. Both offer SFIC and multiple keyway options. The grade and fire listing are the deciding specs between the two.
What the 1" Throw With Case-Hardened Pin Means
Standard residential deadbolts typically have a 5/8-inch bolt throw - enough bolt engagement for a residential door frame. The KV116's 1-inch throw puts the bolt a full inch into the strike when locked. More bolt in the strike means more force required to kick the door open. For commercial applications where forced entry is a real concern, the extra 3/8-inch of bolt engagement matters.
The 1/4-inch case-hardened steel roll pin in the brass bolt face resists bolt cutting. Cutting through soft brass with a hacksaw hits the steel pin. Bolt cutting tools that shear brass aren't designed for hardened steel inserts. This is a meaningful security upgrade from standard brass-only deadbolts and explains why this "commercial duty" rim deadbolt gets specified on applications that need more than residential hardware without the cost of the heavier KM Series.
Adjustable Backset and SFIC Compatibility
The KV116 ships at 2-3/4-inch backset (factory default) and is field-adjustable to 2-3/8 inches without ordering a different model. This covers both standard and short-backset commercial door frames from one unit.
For buildings running Best, Falcon, or Arrow SFIC master key programs, the KV116 is available with SFIC (Small Format Interchangeable Core) configuration - select "SFL - SFIC Less Core" at the cylinder field and add the SFIC cores from your existing program. The SFIC option changes the door thickness range to 1-1/2 to 2 inches.
