The PDQ KV137 is a double cylinder rim deadbolt from the PDQ KV series, conforming to ANSI function E2142. Both the exterior and interior sides require a key to retract the bolt — there is no thumbturn on either face. Grade comparable to PDQ's SD Series Grade 2 cylindrical locks and suitable for light commercial and residential applications. The 1" throw bolt contains a 1/4" case-hardened steel roll pin for saw resistance. Standard Schlage C compatible keyway. Non-handed. Five finishes available. One-year limited warranty.

What double cylinder function means and where it's specified

Double cylinder deadbolts require a key for both entry from outside and exit from inside. Unlike a single cylinder deadbolt that has a thumbturn for interior egress, a double cylinder configuration gives no interior access without a key. This is specified on doors where the interior handle or glazing presents a security risk. If a door has a glass panel or sidelight within arm's reach of the inside thumbturn, a single cylinder deadbolt is vulnerable to glass breaking followed by thumbturn operation. The double cylinder removes that vulnerability because the interior side still requires a key.

The practical tradeoff is that every person who needs to exit through the door must have a key. For residential applications, this is typically limited to the primary homeowner. For light commercial applications, it's typically keyed building staff. The KV137 ships with a 6-pin brass insert cylinder keyed to 5 pins as the standard configuration. The standard keyway is SCC, which is Schlage C compatible, one of the most widely available commercial keyways in the US market. This allows the KV137 to be keyed into an existing Schlage C keyway master key system without specifying a proprietary keyway. Interchangeable core options in 6-pin or 7-pin are available for facilities running IC master key programs. Standard backset is 2-3/4", adjustable to 2-3/8" in the field. The bolt front measures 2-1/4" x 1" in stainless steel or wrought brass, and the strike is 2-3/4" x 1-1/8" in matching material. The trim is a stainless steel or wrought brass scalp. The lock is non-handed and installs on left or right hand doors without modification.

Five finish options are available: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 626 satin chrome, and 630 satin stainless steel.
