PDQ KV125IND Single Sided - Indicator, Commercial Duty Rim Cylinder Deadbolt

The PDQ KV125IND is not a standard deadbolt. It's a single-sided indicator deadbolt - a specific configuration for single-occupancy restrooms, changing rooms, and private offices where the person inside controls the lock, no regular key is needed from outside, and the outside of the door displays whether the space is currently occupied. Those three features together define this product's function and separate it from every other deadbolt in the KV Series.

How the KV125IND Works

The outside of the door has no key cylinder. Instead it has two things: an indicator window and an emergency key slot.

The indicator is a small window on the outside trim that shows a symbol - Unoccupied when the deadbolt is retracted, Occupied when the deadbolt is extended. Anyone approaching the restroom or changing room sees the status before trying the handle. This is exactly how commercial single-occupancy restroom locks are supposed to work: check the indicator, if it shows Unoccupied the room is free.

The thumbturn on the inside lets the occupant extend and retract the 1-inch deadbolt without a key. ADA-compliant thumbturn operation - operable with one hand without tight grasping or twisting the wrist.

The emergency key slot on the outside accepts an emergency key (included with the lock) that retracts the deadbolt from outside when someone inside can't respond. Hotel staff, building managers, and first responders use the emergency key to access the room without forcing the door. This is a specialized key - not a master key, not a standard cylinder - that goes through the emergency slot in the outside trim and mechanically trips the thumbturn mechanism from outside.

KV125IND vs KV116: Two Completely Different Applications

The KV116 is a standard single cylinder deadbolt - key outside, thumbturn inside, for standard keyed-entry exterior and interior doors. You need a key to get in. The KV125IND has no key on the outside at all. It's not for entry control. It's for privacy control - the outside indicator tells anyone approaching whether the room is available, the inside thumbturn lets the occupant lock and unlock, and the emergency key provides staff access in an emergency.

Specifying a KV125IND on an entry door is the wrong product. Specifying a KV116 on a single-occupancy restroom is also the wrong product. The distinction matters at the time of order because both are rim cylinder deadbolts that look similar in a parts list. Confirm the function - entry control or privacy/occupancy indication - before ordering.

UL Listings: Auxiliary Lock Designation

The KV125IND carries two UL fire listings:

• UL 10C: 3-hour fire rated for A label single doors, listed as an auxiliary lock

• UL 10B: Neutral pressure doors, auxiliary lock designation

"Auxiliary lock" in the UL listing means this deadbolt is listed for use as a secondary lock on a fire-labeled door that already has a primary latching lockset. It's not listed as a stand-alone primary lock for fire door assemblies. If the door has a primary passage lever or cylindrical lockset meeting the door's fire label requirements, the KV125IND can serve as the supplemental deadbolt on that same door with the UL 10C fire listing.

Bolt Security: Hardened Steel Roller and Case-Hardened Roll Pin

The KV125IND bolt uses two hardened steel components: a hardened steel roller and a concealed 1/4-inch case-hardened steel roll pin, both embedded in the brass bolt body. The roller provides anti-saw resistance - saw blades contact the spinning roller instead of biting into the bolt. The case-hardened pin resists bolt cutting by adding a steel core to the soft brass bolt. Together they provide significantly more bolt attack resistance than a standard brass-only deadbolt at this price point.
