PHI Precision 4901 Dummy Lever Exit Device Trim, Exit Only, Cover Plate

The PHI Precision 4901 is the Exit Only (Cover Plate) trim for Precision's Apex 2000 Series and Olympian wide stile exit devices. Function code "01" in Precision Hardware's 4900 Series trim numbering means exactly what it says: exit only, from inside, via the panic bar. The outside of the door gets a flush cover plate that covers the door preparation where lever trim would otherwise mount. No lever. No cylinder. No outside entry of any kind.

This is the correct trim specification for emergency exit doors, fire stair access doors, and any egress opening where outside re-entry is neither required nor permitted. The cover plate provides a finished appearance on the exterior - cleaner than leaving the device prep exposed - without adding any hardware that implies outside access exists.

4901 vs 4902: Cover Plate vs Dummy Lever

Both the 4901 and 4902 provide exterior access-controlled finishes for exit-only applications, but they look different from the outside and serve slightly different architectural purposes.

The 4901 (this product) installs a flat cover plate. Standing outside the door, you see a finished plate with no lever. The visual message is clear: this door is push-to-exit from inside. No lever to try, no cylinder slot to look for.

The 4902 Dummy Lever installs a full lever on the outside that matches the profile of the functional trims (4903, 4908, 4914) but does not operate the latch. From outside, the door looks identical to adjacent entry doors with working levers. The dummy lever provides visual continuity across a corridor where some doors have trim and others don't - the consistent lever appearance from the outside reads as a uniform door hardware specification even when some doors are exit-only.

Specify the 4901 when the exterior should clearly read as no-entry. Specify the 4902 when visual lever continuity with adjacent doors matters more than communicating exit-only status from outside.

Compatibility: Apex 2000 and Olympian Wide Stile Exit Devices

The 4900 Series lever trim is engineered specifically for Precision Hardware's 2000 Series exit devices in wide stile configuration. Compatible devices include the 2100 Series rim (2101, 2102, 2103, 2105, 2114, 2115), 2200 Series surface vertical rod, and related Apex 2000 configurations. The 4900 Series is not for narrow stile devices - narrow stile applications use the 2900 Series trim.

The 4901 is through-bolted to the door, not surface-fastened. Through-bolting is standard across all 4900 Series trims. The trim is field reversible for left-hand and right-hand door swing without ordering a separate handed version.

Understanding the 4900 Series Function Code System

Every Precision 4900 Series trim has a two-digit function code built into the model number. The 4901 is function "01" - exit only. Other functions in the series:

4902 (function 02): Dummy lever - visible lever, no mechanical function. 4903 (function 03): Key retracts latchbolt - standard entry. 4908 (function 08): Key locks and unlocks lever - classroom/office function. 4914 (function 14): No cylinder, lever always active - free passage.
