About this item
The Hager 3553 is a Grade 2 entry cylindrical lever lock built to ANSI function F109 for commercial office, retail, government, and multi-family applications. It delivers two distinct outside lever locking behaviors through the same inside push or turn button, a keyed cylinder in the C keyway for outside entry, and a deadlocking latchbolt operated by lever from both sides. Certified to BHMA ANSI A156.2 Grade 2, UL and cUL listed for 3-hour A label fire doors, ADA compliant per ANSI A117.1, and rated to ANSI A250.13 for severe windstorm resistant component performance.
How the two push button modes work on the Hager 3553
The 3553 is built on ANSI F109, which provides two separate locking behaviors from the inside push or turn button. In the first mode, pushing the button without turning locks the outside lever until one of three things releases it: a key used in the outside cylinder, rotating the inside lever, or opening the door. This mode is the temporary lockout used during an occupied work session, and it resets automatically when the door opens.
The second mode is activated by pushing and rotating the button simultaneously. Once the button is turned, the outside lever stays locked regardless of whether the door opens or closes. It does not self-reset on door operation. The inside lever still operates the latch freely at all times, but the outside lever remains locked until the button is manually turned back from the inside or a key is used from outside. This mode is the end-of-day or extended lockout configuration, used when securing a room and leaving with the expectation that re-entry will require a key. The practical difference between these two modes is what makes F109 entry/office function the specification of choice in commercial office buildings and multi-tenant suites where occupants need both short-term occupied-room security and proper key-controlled locking when the space is unoccupied.
Cylinder, keyway, and keying options
The 3553 ships with a brass cylinder in the C keyway, drilled for 6 pins and keyed in 5 as the standard configuration. Two brass keys are included with each lock. Keying options at ordering are standard keyed different, keyed alike, and master keyed. Keyed alike allows multiple doors to share the same key, which is a common specification in multi-family residential buildings where a tenant's apartment key should also open a storage unit or secondary door. Master keying allows a building manager's key to open all locks in a system while individual unit keys open only assigned doors.
